Columbia River Gorge

From October 17, this is a view of the Columbia River Gorge from the Oregon side, as seen from Vista House on the E. Historic Columbia River Highway. This was a very nice view, but a bit hazy that day. It seems to work better as a black and white image.

Lake Mamie, Mammoth Lakes

October 23: This is the south end of Lake Mamie, which lies 8,901 feet above sea level. There were very few people up there today, all the campgrounds are closed, and the area feels like it is waiting for winter.

Late afternoon, Lake Tahoe

October 20: More ‘seascapes.’ An afternoon view of the lake from North Lake Tahoe. The weather was very still and unseasonably warm. The reflections of the clouds on the water were very nice.

Seascapes, Vancouver's English Bay

Here are three black and white seascapes taken over two days of Vancouver’s English Bay. The first image was an 8 second exposure, and one of the False Creek water taxis appears as a blur.

Monk's Hood

We discovered this very colorful flower while strolling the grounds of the VanDussen Botanic Garden. To quote Wikipedia, “Aconitum, … also known as aconite, monkshood, wolfsbane, leopard's bane, devil's helmet or blue rocket, … is a genus of over 250 species of flowering plants belonging to the family Ranunculaceae. … Most Aconitum species are extremely poisonous and must be handled very carefully”. I am glad I did not try to sample it!

Starbucks on Vancouver's West Side

The local Starbucks at about 7:00 am on Canadian Thanksgiving Day.

I think I was channeling Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks on this one.
